Artist Statement:

I found my voice behind the lens of a camera. After sustaining a life-altering injury, my eyes were opened to the inequalities in life—I understand how it feels to be marginalized, judged, and stereotyped. My work is extremely personal as I strive to capture truly authentic moments humanizing other people, places, and spaces. As a social documentarian, I observe and capture how people engage or disengage to better understand who we are as a society. Through my work, I encourage contemplation and aim to foster conversations about lived experiences and tolerance.

Shooting with a fixed lens enables me to be more aware of the distance between me and my subject matter. I primarily take images blindly from my lap, as this provides a unique vantage point and fresh perspective—quietly capturing people in candid moments. Black and white photography grants me the opportunity to play with contrast in natural light. This allows me to capture the essence of the moment.
